Why Ecuador?
Ecuador's rich cultural heritage and gorgeous natural scenery make it one of South America's hidden gems for travelers. Participants who want to experience a dynamic international internship while being immersed in a new culture and language need look no further to meet their professional and personal goals. With a strong and growing economy, Ecuador is not only investing locally, but globally, creating opportunities for interns in many fields to gain hands on, real world work experience.

Interns can expect to work side by side with local colleagues, receive direction from a manager or staff member, and behave just as one would in a real job. On weekends or after work hours, interns engage in a host of activities depending on each participant's tastes. Interns share meals with new friends or host family members, take in cultural events, explore the city, or even take day or weekend trips outside of the area. World Endeavors provides a list of possible activities in the area and the World Endeavors local coordinator can also function as an ever present guide and ambassador to the area.

Live in Quito, Ecuador
Quito is the capital of Ecuador and the country's second largest city. Nestled amongst the snowy peaks of the Andes and situated between Pichincha Volcano and the Machángara River Canyon, the city flaunts beautiful panoramas and breathtaking views in every direction. Ecuadorian history comes alive in Quito; the city is a wonderful mix of colonial and modern architecture, and its historical center has been distinguished as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Culture is another aspect that Quito isn't lacking. The city hosts a variety of museums, festivals, art galleries, shops, and restaurants and cafés for its lively and engaged population. Visitors to Quito are fortunate to have a variety of outdoor opportunities at their fingertips--from hiking in the Andes surrounding the city, to paragliding from a volcanic peak, to going on archeological and birdwatching tours, the area has something for everyone, ranging from the cautious to the most adventuresome explorer.

Program Snapshot

Housing : Interns in Ecuador live with local host families in single or shared rooms. Interns have access to shared bathrooms, kitchens, and living space, and have the opportunity to practice their Spanish and learn about Ecuadorian culture by sharing meals and spending time with their host families.

Ecuadorians enjoy a slower, more relaxed pace of life, and the climate and culture in Ecuador make it a welcoming destination for visitors. Locals are often excited to meet new people and show them everything they love about their country. Spanish is the primary language spoken in Ecuador, but one can get along just fine with a limited knowledge of the language. Ecuadorians are encouraging to those who are new to Spanish, and eager to help them practice and learn.

Dates: Internships are available year round, and each placement is customized for the participant. This means that World Endeavors interns can choose the start date and duration of their internship, as well as the field. Due to holidays, traditional vacation schedules, and seasonal work availability, there might be better times than others to intern in a specific location or in a specific field. Our advisors work with interns to ensure that their timeframe works adequately with the internship site. This communication is a key to creating a successful internship placement.
